Fire Preparation

Year 3 are preparing to make a Stone Age style fire and burn wood to make charcoal.

They had to identify a suitable place for

the fire and then clear the ground.

They put the small sticks that they cleared

in a sheltered spot to keep them dry.

A circle was measured out . . .

and stones put around the edge.

This is where the fire will be made.

Next they had to identify trees to find

the right types of wood for burning.

Evergreen and Willow will not burn well.

Alder would be the best.

Time to gather wood.

It needed to be dry.

Everyone worked hard and we

soon had a big wood pile!

We are looking forward to making

our fire but have to wait until the

weather is just right.
