Pupil Leadership

Our Ecovengers are a group of conscientious children coming together to change the school’s carbon footprint and understanding of climate change for the better. We meet most weeks to discuss issues across the school and work through our action plan to hopefully achieve our green flag in the future.

Year 6 Reading Champions are enthusiastic readers who share their love of books, comics and magazines in order to raise the profile of reading across school. Our Reading Champions:

  • Are great reading role models and ensure class book areas are welcoming and tidy
  • Promote reading for events such as World Book Day
  • Look after our school library to ensure that books are well looked after, interesting and the library is a welcoming and inviting space for all children to use
  • Run story clubs for Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 and share books with younger children at playtimes and lunchtimes in our outdoor reading space
  • Work with staff to choose new books for the library and then promote these books informally and in assemblies

We have a wonderful team of Year 6 Play Leaders who organise a wide range of activities to be enjoyed at play and lunchtime. These could include skipping, arts and crafts, parachute games, obstacle courses, water play, dance, and reading! These leaders also support in our whole school daily brain breaks to get everyone moving and active!

Every playtime, there is also a Wellbeing Ambassador on the playground. After some training from our ELSA team, Mrs Lee and Mrs Pierotti, they are on hand to support other children with any difficulties or worries they have at playtime.

The School Choir, facilitated by Miss Smith, and our School Orchestra, organised by the talented Mrs Martin, offer additional opportunities for our young musicians to both work collaboratively, and contribute to the cultural life of our school and wider community.

Some children are also Hedgehog Heroes, contributing to our status as a Hedgehog-friendly School, and every year our classes democratically elect Members of the School Council.

These pupil leadership opportunities are in addition to a wide range of extra-curricular activities and clubs and enrichment activities.
