Lord Deramore’s Primary School is seeking to recruit a Class Teacher for September 2022. This post is suitable for Early Career Teachers.

Lord Deramore’s is a successful and happy one-form entry LA maintained school, situated next to the University of York. Founded in 1795, it is oversubscribed and has a long-standing reputation for providing children with a creative, diverse and inclusive education.

The successful candidate will receive an initial 1-year contract, with deployment likely to be in one of our Key Stage 2 classes.

The school will be fully committed to providing professional development opportunities to the successful candidate, potentially including middle and senior leadership development. Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply for this post.

Hedgehog-Friendly School – Gold Award!

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the gold hedgehog-friendly schools award. With a challenging 60 points needed for gold, we managed a whopping 93 points!

We love doing our bit to help hedgehogs. Congratulations too go to our neighbours, the University of York, who also achieved gold.

Vacancy – Midday Supervisory Assistant

Job Title: Midday Supervisory Assistant (MSA)      

Grade 2 Level 1 (£18,328 per annum) reduced pro-rata

Permanent contract; Term Time contract

5 hours and 50 minutes per week – 1 hour and 10 minutes a day, 11.55am until 1.05pm

Lord Deramore’s Primary School is looking for a Midday Supervisory Assistant to help make our children’s lunch hour happy and safe for all.

Main duties include:

  • Supervising children to ensure they keep safe
  • Assisting younger children in eating their lunches
  • Keeping the lunch hall calm, tidy and organised
  • Ensuring a happy playtime for all

The ideal candidate needs to have:

  • Effective communication skills
  • A caring attitude
  • Tact and sensitivity
  • Observational skills
  • An approachable style
  • Thorough knowledge of the school’s policies, procedures and protocols (or willingness to learn)
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to react calmly and quickly in an emergency

The working pattern for this post is Monday to Fridays (school term time only) 11.55am to 1.05pm.

School Council

School Council History

Deramore’s School Council is to improve the school for children and adults.  Each child, from Years 2-6, has the opportunity to be council representative for their year group.  Children who wish to be elected create a presentation about themselves, explaining why people should vote for them to be on the School Council. A ballot is then held in each class to select two class representatives. 

The School Council also work to raise money for our chosen charities. Charities are nominated at the start of each term and presentations are given by the council members. Each child in school then votes to select the charity. Fundraising activities are organised throughout the year by the School Council. A bake sale at the Christmas Fair in 2019, run by the Council, raised over £84. Donations from parents and carers at the Christmas productions raised over £200. In the school year 2016-2017 our charity was Cancer Research UK. We raised over £300. During 2015-2016 we raised over £800 for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, Leeds. The Enterprise Challenge in the Spring Term will raise funds for this term’s chosen charity.

School Councillors attend regular meetings. They take a role in the appointment of new staff; they have the opportunity to interview candidates using their own prepared questions. They also prepare and lead school assemblies.

They support the PTA by judging competitions such as ‘The Bake Off’. They help at events like World Book Day, as well as make posters to display in school advertising fundraising activities. They also listen to any feedback that pupils may have about what is good about Lord Deramore’s and what could be improved. 

Several years have been disrupted by COVID but we are back up and running with School Council. Elections have taken place and there are two representatives from Y2 to Y6. They have created an informative hedgehog display in school and meet regularly.

Meet Bob

Meet Bob. Bob is a hedgehog that was found in a bad way.
Fiona, who runs Urchins Hedgehog Care in York, nursed Bob back to full health. Unfortunately, Bob was unable to be returned to where he was found. Without hesitation, we offered Bob a new home in our wonderful grounds and Fiona chose us to adopt him.
